The Don Álvaro de Bazán Palace Museum, in Viso del Marqués, has been the venue chosen to host the concert in Tribute to Don Miguel de Cervantes held as a finishing touch to the events organized by the Defense Delegation in Castilla‐La Mancha in commemoration of the 450th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto.
The Genoese style palace, ordered to be built by the Marquis of Santa Cruz, and which had a fundamental participation in the events of Industry Email List October was decorated to host a classical music concert, which transported attendees to the battlefields. from the 16th and centuries.The attendees were the President and the Prosecutor of the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla‐La Mancha, the Vice Minister of Culture, Ana Muñoz; the current Marquis of Santa Cruz Don Álvaro Fernández de Villaverde y Silva, Deputies and Senators, and the Spokesperson for Citizens in the Regional Courts, David Muñoz Zapata.
The Admiral Director of the Institute of Naval History and Culture and the Colonel Delegate of Defense in Castilla-La Mancha attended as military authorities.The musicians, among whom were Juan José Montero, former director of the Jacinto Guerrero Conservatory, in Toledo, and the cellist Michal Dmochowsky, its professor, performed a program very appropriate to the occasion, which began with a folía or Renaissance dance of the year 1583, and later evoked the sounds of war with “The Battle” by Heinrich Biber, and “The Siege of Vienna” by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, to conclude with the “Don Quixote Suite” written by G. Telemann in 1716.
The Palace Patio, with perfect acoustics, allowed attendees to enjoy a masterful performance. Not in vain all the performers were very high-level professionals, who have given concerts all over the world.
This concert has been sponsored by the Impulsa Castilla-La Mancha Foundation, of the Government of the Community Board, and is the last of the events scheduled by the Defense Delegation in Castilla-La Mancha in relation to the anniversary of Lepanto.
As explained by Colonel Vizuete Delegate of Defense, in his words of Welcome, the Delegation, together with the Faculty of Humanities of Toledo, began a year ago to prepare a program of events that had the support of the regional authorities from the beginning, from the Presidency of the Board and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports; the Presidency of the Cortes, and the rectorate of the University; the Navy and the Provincial Councils, which welcomed the project as their own and have provided us with the means to be present in practically the entire Community.
Four provinces have heard the echo of Lepanto. Thirteen towns and more than 15,000 citizens have been able to witness the conferences given, the exhibition carried out by the Confluencias Research Group of the University, a military act of Homage to the Marquis of Santa Cruz in his hermitage of the Virgen de las Nieves, and two concerts at the Viso del Marqués.
In the words of Vizuete, Castilla‐La Mancha has celebrated this anniversary as it deserved.Finally, the Defense Delegate gave a souvenir of the event to Ana Muñoz, the mayor of Viso del Marqués, Alfonso Lozano Mejía, and Vice Admiral Marcial Gamboa Pérez Pardo, Director of the Institute of Naval History and Culture.
